Common Treatments for Toenail Fungus

Many people are suffering from toenail fungus for years even after seeing their podiatrists. As discussed in the advice for health forum of Berkeley Parents Network, there are several ways of treating thisfungus.

Each treatment has demonstrated different results from one person to another. And almost all of those who posted their comments in the forum admitted that the treatment may vary depending on the stage of the toenail fungus. Here are some of the treatments mentioned:

1.   Laser Nail Fungus Treatments

Most people who used laser as nail fungus treatment said that the procedure was not painful. However, the cost, which was about $1000 per session, was not covered by insurance so you have to pay it on your own. Some said it worked for them; others said it took them 2 sessions before completely seeing the development while others say they did not notice any improvement on their infection.

It was also mentioned that the procedure is not done by podiatrists always but by board-licensed medical professionals.

2.   Herbal Treatment

In the forum, herbal treatment was also used by some. This includes taking some herbal solution and soaking their feet at least once a day in bleach.

It was also advised that washing of shoes should be done once a week, and have them dried under the sun afterwards to kill fungus spores. Those spores would cause the infection to spread.

3.   Lamisil

This is another option that was mentioned in the Berkeley Parents Network forum. It was said that it worked 70% of the time but has side effects like headaches and shortness of breath.

Most people who were affected with toenail fungus were a little hesitant to try it because it could pose a threat to one’s liver.

4.   White Vinegar

This is probably the easiest treatment that was mentioned in the forum since all you have to do is soak your feet in it at least 2 times a day. Some of them have seen good results while some did not.
